Coming Soon ~ Feather Hair Extensions by FeatherLocks

Feather hair extensions are THE HOTTEST thing in hair trends this spring and I am so excited to be featuring FeatherLocks hair feathers at Goldie Locks Hair Studio.

The possibilities with feather hair extensions are endless and they ARE for everyone!!! You can be as dramatic or subtle as you'd like and still make an impact. They are easy to care for and last up to eight weeks. The feathers are reusable after eight weeks, they just need to be re-adhered to your hair. They can be washed, dried and styled like real hair and can withstand heat up to 400 degrees.

Here are some pictures of ways you can wear FeatherLocks feather hair extension in your hair:

I hope to have my order in by the end of next week. Be sure to check out the Goldie Locks Hair Studio Facebook page for the latest news! You can also schedule your appointment online by clicking here. Three feather hair extensions can be added to any hair service for $15 or $30 for a feather application alone. Additional feathers are $8.

Hair color timeline

This past August, Sarah walked down the aisle as a gorgeous blonde bride. She spent months achieving the creamy blonde color and took meticulous care of her hair in the process. She radiated beauty as she walked down the aisle to marry the man of her dreams.

As fall approached, she desired a richer shade closer to her natural and that would require less maintenance. She browsed countless websites and magazine and decided upon the hair color trend known as "Bronde" - a hybrid color between brown and blonde.

As winter approached and her belated honeymoon to Costa Rica neared, Sarah decided to go one step closer to her natural hair color (medium brown). She chose a rich red-brown base color with subtle honey highlights. I would be lying if I didn't tell you about her initial shock and anxiety about the darker color. But, she adjusted well and enjoyed how the richer shade suited her skin and eye color. She also enjoyed the lower maintenance this color offered.

Now Sarah is an ideal client. She looks at magazines and websites to see what current trends in hair and fashion are. She takes very good care of her hair by scheduling regular appointments for cut and colors. She maintains a home care routine that includes the use of professional hair care products and does regular deep conditioning treatments. All in all, Sarah is committed to having great hair.

As time moved on and we approach spring, Sarah found herself at a crossroads. She admitted to me that she looked back at her wedding photos and longed to feel the way she felt on her wedding day; glowing and radiating. However, she didn't want to maintain such a light color and she knew how delicate her hair had become in achieving the light blonde tone. But, the darker color was being to bore her. So, being "Sarah", she did her homework and went online to see what color trends were emerging for the upcoming season. She found herself being drawn to celebrities like Lauren Conrad and Sarah Jessica Parker and their hair color known as "ombre". Now "ombre" isn't so much a hair color as it is a hair color effect.

To achieve the "ombre" color on Sarah, I did a highlighting technique known as balayage. Balayage is a very versatile highlighting technique that can create many different effects.

Sarah fell in love with her new "ombre" hair color and feels the glow that she felt on her wedding day. I couldn't agree more! Below is a collage of Sarah showcasing two past colors and the current ombre color. The upper left is her wedding day, the lower left is the medium red brown with honey highlights and the right is the current ombre color.

Professional Image

Shay was long overdue for a hair color and cut. Like many of us, Shay is a full time professional and finds little time outside of work to spend on herself. And, like many of us, one day it finally becomes time and we can't take it anymore!

Shay was ready for a change. She works as a bank professional and wanted to have her image be professional and polished. She also wanted to look cute and fun for the weekends! This sleek bob was the perfect fit! It's easy to style and suits both a professional and casual look. Her overall color was toned down and brighter highlights were added in to suit her natural light brown hair color. Maintenance on both the color and cut are relatively low (8-12 weeks) and styling is a breeze; apply a volume enhancing product, blow dry and flat iron to round the ends under.

Take a look and see Shay's new look! She's ready for work and Saturday night!

Locks of Love haircut

This week I had a new client named Adria. She had long hair down to the middle of her back. She was ready to cut it off! But this wasn't just a regular hair cut. She was doing it for more of a selfless reason; she was donating over 10 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love organization. You see, her dear friend in Colorado passed away last week from breast cancer. And this woman was more than a friend to Adria, she was her former hair stylist.

I was very touched by her motive to cut so much length of her hair. It's hard to let go sometimes of long hair. There is an attachment to it that is hard to explain. We talked in the past about how she was "getting bored" with her long hair, but I could tell she wasn't ready to make any changes. I told her "now is not the time, you'll know when it is." Upon hearing of the passing of her dear friend and being unable to attend her memorial service out of state, Adria knew that the "right time" was now. She made her appointment for the same day as the service as a way to pay her respects from far away.

I am very honored that Adria trusted me to do such a meaningful and emotional haircut for her. Adria did a beautiful thing for her friend and it reflects the beauty in her heart.
